We’re sitting right now in the living room of our Airbnb in Oslo after a busy final few days in Iceland and our first full day in Norway. It’s drizzling outside and we’re enjoying a mellow evening because we have been busy as Icelandic rabbits (a new idiom I just invented) for the last several days.
One of the highlights of our time in Iceland was a two hour hike on the Svinafellsjokull glacier in Skaftafell – Vatanajökull national park in the east of Iceland.
We strapped on some crampons and, with the supervision of two experienced guides, explored icy hills, crevasses and holes in the ice up to 50 meters deep.
After our day on the ice we drove back to Katla house for an intense game of set-back, some Irish whiskey and a good night’s sleep.
Soon it was time to head back towards Reykjavik to start the second leg of our trip. We left Katla house on Wednesday morning and started the drive back across almost the whole country. It would take us about 3 hours. We stopped just outside of Vik hoping to see some puffins. Unfortunately they remained hidden away, so we were forced to just look at these SUPER ugly views of the southeast coast.
After a quick stop back in Reykjavik and a fancy dinner to celebrate Billy’s belated birthday and retirement
we flew Wednesday morning to Oslo.
We spent our first day in Norway taking it easy (although Chase did discover the Norwegian pinball scene in Oslo, and represented the 2up on Colfax proudly with a grand champion score)
Today we explored the city more, and visited some of the major landmarks
Tomorrow we leave the city to head towards Lillehammer, a farmhouse, and presumably trolls. We’ll keep you updated.
Wonderful blog! It is so much fun to share in your travels.
